Oscar Noms 2023 – Let the Force Feeding Commence!

I don’t even remember what happened last year. I watched 3/4 of the movies, wrote about none. I’ve been uninterestingly busy, exhausted, and wrestling the inertia of light depression. If I were a tv commercial, I would ask myself if I’ve lost interest in things I normally enjoy. Some things, I think. Or maybe my life is just bigger/harder now than it was and I’m still trying to catch up to the growth. Regardless, I dropped virtually every ball – except for the one where I left Dear Evan Hansen half way through. No apologies.

I don’t anticipate myself turning over any radically new leaves in 2023, but let’s pretend for a moment that I might. The 2023 noms are in and I am reasonably certain that they’re mostly not great. I have been searching for a reason to watch the festering wound that is Blonde, but I didn’t want to read All Quiet on the Western Front when I was in 8th grade, and I definitely don’t want to watch a movie version of it now. I haven’t the strength today (or potentially ever) to address Avatar: The Way of Water.

Anyway, it’s feeding time. Line up here to chew on all of this bloated cinematic gristle and more. A-L to the right, M-Z to the left.
